What Neil Did & Chivas Regal

After a sell-out first year, The Blend by Chivas Regal is returning to London. Offering you the chance to delve into the world of whisky and take part in an ‘Art of Blending’ experience.

The Blend is a pop-up destination that will open at 133 Bethnal Green Road on 2nd October during London Cocktail Week. The new bespoke space is a bar in its own right, and looks set to become the new must-go, must-be-seen-in venue in town. Inspired by famous Manhattan whisky bars, The Blend is the perfect spot to wind down after work or to kick start the weekend with exclusive cocktails. You’ll also discover the new Chivas ‘Ice Breaker’ - a unique ritual using flavoured ice, with flavours including Orange & Coconut; Watermelon and Pineapple & Basil, to personalise your Chivas sour.

In a little sneak preview of what’s in store (spoiler alert: It’s SO good), I joined Chivas Regal in the Chivas Private Dining room in Searcys on the 38th Floor of The Gherkin for a taster of the ‘Art of Blending’ experience. I’ve always wanted to go inside The Gherkin and it did not disappoint. With spectacular views over London, it’s an amazing place to enjoy a few drinks.

The ‘Art of Blending’

Phil Huckle, Chivas Regal’s UK Brand Ambassador, played host for the main part of the evening. Phil guided us through the heritage and history of premium whisky, including the origins of single malt and grain whiskies. We each had five small bottles in front of us, each containing a different Malt, including creamy, smoky, citrus, fruity and floral (grain).

Then came the really fun part, we got to blend each of the whiskies into our own unique blend! I took a a rather practical approach; after adding in the 50% grain base as instructed, I then led with smoky as my next largest portion as I love smoky whisky. After that, I divided up the remaining Malts equally (the challenge was to use all of them.) and dubbed my creation WND in honour of the blog. Though in this instance it means Weapon of Neil’s Destruction.

Now, unfortunately my concoction did not win best blend out of the group, but I did get to bring it home. So if anyone is daring enough to come enjoy it with me, then give me a shout.

The ‘Art of Blending’ experience is truly unique and an unmissable event for whisky fans and novices alike, while The Blend it’s self offers an eclectic environment, with DJs, art installations and amazing food vendor partners.

First release tickets for a 45 minute ‘Art of Blending’ experience start at £20 for two, which is crazy good value! Entry to the bar is free. You can book your tickets and find out more about The Blend at chivas.com/theblend

Get booking, guys, and I’ll see you at the bar. Cheers!
