Pink’s Letter to the World

June 23, 2011 by Neil Thornton No Comments

World superstar, and singer of hits such as ‘Who Knew’, ‘Funhouse’ and ‘Get The Party Started’, Pink has released a heartfelt and poignant letter to the world on her website.

Entitled ‘Important note from Pink’ the singer addresses ‘Whomever cares’. She begins telling all about her and beau Carey Hart’s shear bliss over their new role as parents to their daughter, Willow. Pink lovingly gushes that’s he has ‘finally found out what love really means’ and thanks all those who have supported her.

The bulk of the letter encompasses two things; their daughter and the paparazzi.

Pink announces that due to the incredible lengths the paparazzi have gone to, to secure a photo of their child, including stalking and car chasing, the couple have decided to officially release photos of them and baby Willow. They will use the proceeds to benefit charities such as the Ronald McDonald House and Autism Speaks.

Pink continues to break down an analyse the ludicrous lengths the paparazzi will go to, discussing how in most countries it is illegal to photograph minors and their images are normally blurred. Yet in America, she continues, it is almost encouraged for paparazzi to chase and stalk small children, an action in most other circumstances would lead to an arrest, but as it is the child of a person of note it is deemed acceptable.

Pink very astutely observes her and her husband’s role in society as celebrities, she knows people want to know about them and she is appreciative of that. When it comes to their child, however, they wish to govern the process and decision, something I whole-heartedly agree with.

I think this is such an important issue that has been raised, both in terms of celebrity privacy and child protection.  At first you jump to that conclusion of ‘well you choose to be famous so deal with it’ but Pink makes solid observations and counter arguments to contrary.
