Recently I was honored to be invited to the Albert Kennedy Trust 25th Anniversary Gala Dinner, celebrating 25 years of tireless work by the AKT to support young homeless gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered people aged 16-25 in crisis.
It was a fantastic night, full of humbling stories, empowering speeches, loads of fundraising – the auction alone raised over £37,000! – and amazing entertainment.
The evening was hosted by Sir Ian McKellen and actress/author/activist Sophie Ward with performances fromCelebrity Big Brother’s Kavana, Marcus Collins, and more. Everyone was dressed to the nines in glittering dresses, sharp tuxedoes and lots of shiny patent footwear.
The wonderful guys at ASOS dressed me for the event in their super-slick cream jacket tuxedo with black trousers. Inspired by the likes of Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto at the Oscars and the like, I really wanted to try something a little bolder for me, rather than a standard black tux. And Asos delivered. They have an amazing range online – with the navy styles coming in a close second!
So there we have it; week one of my 30 Day Bikram Yoga challenge is done! I’m now eight sessions down with 22 to go.
It’s been a hell of a week, the classes have been hard, they’ve pushed me, challenged me and at the same time supported me, it’s fast become the backbone of my day. The 5:30am starts have been hellish, mainly because I have only just moved to Wimbledon, so I am still unsure of buses, so I panicked every day about making it on time.
It’s been a learning curve, and I’ve had some amusing slip ups. So I thought I’d share the top 5 things I’ve learnt this week.
1. Know your transport times
If you take public transport, make sure you know how long it takes you to get there. a 6:30am class gets worse when you panic, get on whenever the next bus comes and turn up at 6am as you didn’t check how long it would take. Trust me, it sucks.
2. Always double check you start times
Arriving early to an early class sucks enough as it is, but if you arrive early to a class that doesn’t actually start for an hour BLOWS. Set alarms (on reliable apps!) and double check each night.
3. Bring underwear
This sounds obvious, but as I had been wearing gym shorts with netting, when I switched I forgot to pick up under armour and had to train without. Queue nearly awkward ball bag slip. Sod’s law just as the instructor walked behind me. Lucky I managed to avoid it.
4. Invest in Microfibre
When practicing Bikram, you have to take a towel for showering and a towel for laying on your matt to soak up the ten tonnes of sweat dripping off you, it pays to invest in a microfibre towel. They a light, thin, absorbent and retain grip when doing certain postures.
5. Take a spare top to travel in
Once your class is over, if you’re travelling to work, your body will still be extremely warm from the class. Take a spare top, i used a quick-dry gym top, to travel in. After a few seconds of walking, with bags and a coat, and being stuck on a tube, you will start to sweat… a lot. So take a spare top so you can swap once at work.

Today marks the start of my 30 Day Fitness Challenge – for me, I’ll be doing 30 Bikram Yoga classes in 30 days.
Since the end of last year I’ve struggled with my training. After injuring my ankle and breaking my toe (on the same foot!) the resulting imbalance in my right leg has meant I have had to scale back while having physio, my body was having to work so hard to due to the pain and awkwardness of my walk that I’ve lost muscle strength all the way up to my glutes. Since getting back from Australia I have really found it difficult to get back to where I was.
My ankle is doing is on the mend but I still can’t get myself to where I want to be, and I am lacking the same focus and discipline I once had. So I decided I needed a challenge, something to give me that focus back and to set myself a goal. Better yet, I am going to tell you lot all about it so I am answerable to you! I need your support and encourage meant. Hell, why don’t you start your own challenges and we will support each other!
Move over Bieber and Calvin Klein, even (dare I say it?), move over David Beckham… there’s a new star underwear model in town. Say hello to Calvin Harris for Emporio Armani underwear.
Now, as has been pointed out, the missed trick my Klein to nab the world’s highest paid DJ as their face will forever go down in history as the biggest missed easy win ever. ‘My Calvins’, hello?! But nevermind, as Harris is looking on form in the Armani campaign.

While in Mexico, my only problem was severely underestimating the temperatures and the amount of sun I would be exposed to. I had definitely not packed enough sun protection. Thankfully I was given a gift pack from Uriage to help me look after my skin in the heat of the day. I’d never come across Uriage before, but I have been mightily impressed with their range!
